New curtain and furnishing fabric at Discount Fabrics Lincs

We had to quickly get the fabric under cover so the workshop is now in chaos!

The lorry arrived in a massive downpour and left in glorious sunshine!

Well the new delivery of curtain and furnishing fabric arrived yesterday afternoon. Managed to get the lorry driver to help us get the first 5 pallets under cover, just one left for me to do by hand. Luckily the fabrics all come covered in plastic as we had a massive thunderstorm when we were off loading the first lorry...typical summer weather! I have spent today going through it all and with the help of my son have managed to find a spot for most of it...some of the rolls that we have doubled on have been put in storage for our wholesale customers.  Make sure to check out the website in the next couple of days to see all our new fabric...

Shades of red...

<><> <><> <><> <><> <><>

<><><><>

Red is recognized as a stimulant and according to colour experts red is directly related to the level of energy we feel. Red draws attention and a clever use of red as an accent can immediately focus attention on a particular element. When used in your home it will give a rich, warm feel and can be used in a traditional or modern room. There are dozens, if not hundreds of shades of red from pink hues through to the deepest blood reds. We have a large selection of fabrics of different styles, weights and colours...these are just a few. Use the search by colour button to see lots more

How to make a simple envelope cushion cover

HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE ENVELOPE CUSHION COVER

This is a very fast and simple way to make a removable cushion cover without the need for zips and is a great way of using up left over fabric. At our workshop we have a bit box with pieces that are big enough for a project like this.

Step one

Get your cushion pad and measure the width. Lay out your fabric and measure out the fabric. It should be three times the length of the cushion, by the width of the cushion plus add an extra 5cm on all sides for hemming. Then carefully cut the fabric.

Step Two

Place the fabric right side down so you are looking at the wrong side. In effect you have a rectangle of fabric. You need to sew a small hem (approx. 2.5cms) on the two short sides. You may find it easier to press the hem flat before you sew and it will look neater. Turn up 2.5cm at each width end of the fabric to create a hem at either end.

Step Three

Place the fabric wrong side down with the right side facing up and put the cushion pad at one side of the material where you have hemmed. Fold the fabric around your pad creating a envelope.

Step Four

Carefully mark the material where the fabric meets and then remove the pad and fold the fabric back to this pencil mark. This becomes easier to understand when you actually do it, I promise!

Step Five

Pin along the sides, leaving a seam allowance of 2.5cm on each side. Tack, and machine down each side.

Step Six

For a really professional look you may like to trim the edges to approx. 1.5 cms and then machine with a zigzag edge. This is particularly useful if you have a fabric that frays.

Turn the right side out and put your pad in.

meet our pets

Thought it would be nice to introduce you to my families pets...
Garfield is our cat who spends alot of time with us in the workshop. We got him from a cat rescue centre near Market Rasen, he had been dumped by his previous owners and was fending for himself. He is a very friendly cat and likes lots of attention from customers!

This is Red or to give him his racing name Red River Rock. We have had him 3 years and he was another rescue! He had his place booked on the meat wagon but his trainer really liked him and tried to find a forever home for him...in comes me to the rescue. He was a flat sprinter and had a pretty good record but like alot of racehorses once his career came to a end was no longer wanted. He is the kindest, most sensible horse you will ever meet and me and the kids trust him completely. We had a very nasty scare with him over xmas when he had to go to Rase vets for 4 days with severe colic, luckily we caught it early and the staff were fantastic.
This is Shrek being ridden by my daughter who is going through a pink phase! Shrek is a Haflinger x and is 14.1hh. We have had him about 18 months and have had to work really hard with him. He was 5 when we first got him and was very disrespectful to humans...he was a big brat! He would drag us about, barge past us and was basically abit of a bully boy. Despite appearing at first glance to be very dominant he was actually very nervous and unsure of what he should be doing. We put in firm boundaries, rewarded good behaviour and had a zero tolerance of bad behaviour/manners. He is now a totally different character, very calm, happy and enjoying life. He has an amazing jump and we are hoping to start competing with him this year.
This is little Roger, he is my daughters pride and joy and is 2 years old. We bought him from a customer who loved him to bits but had no where to keep him and not enough time to bring him on. He is about 11hh so we will probably use him as a driving pony as he is going to be to small for my daughter to ride, though she says different! He is very sweet and loves a good scratch. Even though he is the smallest he sticks up for him self and when it comes to food no one gets in his way.

The horses are kept at home in a 3 acre field behind the workshop and you are welcome to have a fuss...let us know first though as we have electric fencing which hurts if you touch it, the horses now and stay away and we dont want to electocute our customers, its not good for P.R!!
